Measurement equivalence of ordinal items: a comparison of factor analytic, item response theory, and latent class approaches

Kankaraš, M., Vermunt, J. K., & Moors, G. | 2011 | Article

A simulation study comparing three ways of testing measurement equivalence of ordinal items: confirmatory factor analysis, item response theory and latent class factor analysis. Item response theory and latent class models locate inequivalence in loadings and intercepts fairly accurately, while confirmatory factor analysis can misattribute intercept inequivalence to the loadings.
